Women Initiate Most Home Purchases
February 13th, 2009

Online real estate agency ZipRealty.com says when it comes to real estate purchases, women wear the pants. In a recent survey, ZipRealty agents report that women initiate the home buying process (approximately 8% reported men as initiators and 26% reported equal involvement).
Men are more likely to become involved when negotiating with 55% of agents reporting men as negotiators (approximately 9% reported women and remainder reported equal negotiating responsibilities across genders).
Agents reported that the main factors women use to evaluate a home are kitchen renovations and closet spaces. Men look for ample outdoor entertainment space, such as a patio or deck, and yard size. The one priority both genders agree on when looking for a home: The Master Bedroom!
